About Harris-Grant Surveying

Harris-Grant Surveying was originally incorporated on May 1, 1972, as Ralph Harris Surveyor, Inc. with Ralph W. Harris as president and sole stockholder. Following the death of Ralph Harris in June 2003, the firm changed the name to Harris-Grant Surveying, Inc. Margie Harris and James Grant now own the company with Margie Harris as the principle stockholder.

In November 2004, the company was certified as a Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE).

Following is a brief introduction to our staff:

Ralph and MARGIE HARRIS opened Ralph Harris Surveyor in 1972 and worked together for the next 31 years. Following Ralph’s death, Margie assumed the presidency of Harris-Grant Surveying. She primarily oversees the office operations, although she is knowledgeable in many aspects of the surveying side of the company. She has had the opportunity to set up and attend many land surveying seminars.

JAMES GRANT began his surveying career in 1969 in Victoria, Texas, working for Andrew Speakerman while attending junior college. He moved to Austin in 1970 to finish college, and worked part-time for Harvey Smith Surveyors.

After graduating in 1972, he began working at Ralph Harris Surveyor and obtained his license in 1977, becoming a partner in the firm.

James has 30+ years of experience in many types of projects, including 10 or 15 trials as an expert witness. James is going through a learning curve again for the new Carlson surveying software, which is capable of importing/exporting various types of CAD files, including LandXML and shape files, with some GIS capability.

CARL CARTER graduated in 1991 from Flour Bluff High School. Currently with 12 years of experience, he began with the company in September of 1993, working with clients in the office. In 1994, he began field party work as a rodman, moving through the ranks to junior Party Chief, then senior Party Chief in 1997. In May 2002, he became Chief of Field. For the last year or so, he has been in the office as a CAD technician.

ROBERT CARTER is Carl's identical twin. Robert began with the company as a rodman in October of 1995 and is now a Party Chief. Robert enjoys surveying and plans to stay with the company which provides him “a learning and very satisfying experience”.

THOMAS GOMEZ is a member of one of our field parties and has over 9 years of experience.

When you call or come to our office, you’re very likely to meet PAMELA GROVES. Pamela is our secretary.

TOM WATTS has been with us since the early 1990’s. He has many years of experience with various surveying, engineering, and home construction firms. Tom is a very experienced engineering CAD technician; in addition, he submits and processes subdivision and/or site plan projects to the various local city/county governments, with a special focus on Georgetown and/or Williamson County sites.
